Auroral Activity Observation Network Reports
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Omro Township, MN, USA (N44.45 W096.01)
UTC Date/Time of Observation: 2003/09/23 at 04:25 for 00 hours 30 minutes.
Dimmest Stars Visible: 5th to 6th Mag.
Estimated Intensity of Activity: Low
Elevation angle of activity above horizon: 15 degrees
Types of activity observed: (Diffuse Glows) (Discrete Arcs) (Rays) (Curtains)
Light Pollution: Low
Sky Conditions (cloudy or not): 80% Clear View
Estimated Lunar Interference: None
Comments:
First notice homogenous arc was forming about 4:15 UT. While putting away my telescope about 4:30 UT, noticed it had developed into a lovely rayed band, with several rays extending from below the horizon to high above the band, plus shifting curtains of light with subtle yellow color. (There were so many rays, mostly faint, at one point, it reminded me of teeth on a comb.) Very active about 4:30-4:40 UT, then slowed down but remained active, shifting between diffuse band to arc to rayed band. Good night.

Comments:
Hmmm....I'm surprised no one else has posted messages tonight. I got up (sick dog--really, my dog, not me) several times this evening. Once at around 9:00 UTC and 10:30 or so UTC. EAch time I looked out the window and observed some pretty otstanding rays and beams coming up from an arc at 25 degrees. They rippled across and had some pinks and greens. The arc is still there as we speak but didn't observe any rays or beams when I was walking to school.
