Hallo,
in den naechsten Tagen wird der Polarwirbel ("polar vortex"), wenn man den Vorhersagen glauben schenken darf, ueber Mitteleuropa ziehen. Die Temperaturen in der Stratosphaere sollen dabei so tief (T<195K) sein, das die Bildung von PSC ("polar stratospheric clouds") moeglich ist. Mit ein wenig Glueck gibt es bei guenstigem Sonnenstand die Moeglichkeit fuer visuelle Beobachtungen, die sonst den Bewohnern der nordlicheren Gegenden verbehalten sind!

PSC in Holland!!!
Hallo,
der holländische Halochef Peter-Paul Hattinga Verschure hat von einer ersten Beobachtung aus Holland berichtet:
"In the evening of 18 January I have observed an abnormal twilight
sequence from my observing location Deventer (52.15N, 6.10E). Still at
daytime, from about 15.40 local time (lt) a diffuse cloud veil in
upper levels appeared in the western sky, performing very faint and
diffuse 22 degs parhelia and upper pillar. Sometimes low Stratocumulus
cloud moved by, thus leaving upper sky only visible partially. By
sunset (16.54 lt), the high cloud veil remained of remarkable light
intensity, giving a whitish to yellow glow. It showed a somewhat
fibrous structure. By growing darker the higher section of the western
sky, the cloud bank obviously remained sunshined and growed relatively
brighter and brighter, its colour merging into a gold yellow. The
upper boundary of the illuminated area performed a faint brown-reddish
band. This was at 17.30 lt (sun elevation -5,2deg) at about 20 degs
elevation in WSW. The azimuth of the illuminated area was about 45
degs at that time. Cirrus cloud and aircraft contrails were
silhouetted darkly against the bright background. The illuminated area
gradually shrinkled to an elevation of about 5 degs at 18.00 lt (sun
elevation -9,4degs) its color evolving into an intense orange color.
Very close to the WSW horizon some far lucent cloud strings were
visible. The entire display weakened until its last deep orange glow
disappeared near the werstern horizon at 18.30 lt (sun elevation
-13,6degs).
A similar twilight phenomenon has been reported by Frank Nieuwenhuys
from The Hague, near the West coast of the Netherlands.
We presume the display has been a manifestation of nacreous clouds,
although no iridescence colors were seen. The cloud appearance
remained thin and like a veil, with no densities or lenticularis
thickenings in it. Stratosphere temperatures falled to extremely low
values, tipping extreme value of -86,1 Centigrade at 22 km altitude at
19 January 00UTC over the Netherlands."
Leider nimmt die Temperatur in der Höhe schon wieder zu, trotzdem finde ich die Beobachtung sehr bemerkenswert!!!
