It seems to me that outward flow from regions near 0030 might be earth directed now. I'd say a long duration M2 or M3 flare could do the trick. How do spots like these behave normaly? Do they build up tension or slowly release energy when they are allowed to do so?
My prediction is a small series of flares to-nite and aurora on Tuesday nite. No scientific proof for this.
By the way: as far as I know a picture of aurora with NLC hasn't been made yet.

Infact, i have seen quite a many NLC + aurora photos so far and seen them together also through my own eyes.

These are some great pictures you showed me.
I suppose Finland must be one of the best places on earth to see and photograph atmospheric phenomenae. I really love thos picture where I get a real sense of height: seeing hundreds of kilometers upwards in the atmosphere.
