I believe the inner ring is a rare 9 degree LUNAR Halo. Comments please.
This is the first time I've captured what I think is a 9 deg halo.
I believe 9 deg Solar Halos are very rare (I haven't got one so far) and in searching on the Net I have not so far found another pic of a 9 deg Lunar Halo although I'm sure they must exist somewhere.
Can any one please direct me to one/them if they know of any.
I think the elipticle distortion of the halos in this pic are due to the rings being off centre in the frame and in using a wide-angle (of course) lens (35-105mm Nikkor Zoom at 35mm setting).
The third cropped image below is the 22 deg halo.
The fourth cropped image below is a section of the inner halo ring.
The inner halo was not noticed at the time I took this image so it must have been very faint - but then I was not even expecting too see one and wasn't looking for it. A little bit more overall contrast enhancement has been added and has revealed quite a definite banding of colors.
Film - Fuji Velvia 50 ASA, exposure about 5 mins.
I see in another post Michael Ellestead has just got a 9 degree Solar Halo. Looking forward to seeing it too Michael.
Comments please. (And is that a supralateral arc joining the 9 degree halo ?)
