Aurora sighting and possible sighting in southern Finland

Beitrag von tomeklund » 27. Jul 2004, 10:47

Hi,

Last night was possible a start of new aurora season for few here.

Hannu Määttänen from Helsinki area spotted these auroras at 1.20 next to Big Dipper. Second last picture.

Around local midnight i too thought that i was seeing an aurora for couple minutes, but i am not 100% sure. Directly in west there was faint patch that looked clearly green for a while, but it vanished and then the clouds all rolled over. I took some photos of it and the LCD showed it green at that time, but now at home pc that faint patch is not that green anymore....It is mostly colorless or just almost colorless almost green faint patch. Anyway, i think the aurora season started.

Conditions were very difficult for spotting faint aurora...NLCs, convective clouds, high altitude diffuse clouds and other kind fo clouds surfing all over the place all the tiime.

Mats: have you happened too see any aurora during last few nights? i think you should have seen, if it was clear and if you were watching!

Br,
Tom E

Hi Tom.

No I haven't seen any aurora. I have looked but nothing, only NLC and some meteors.
