Wow, what a great event that was...based on the photos seen here and elsewhere! Very nice good quality aurora pics from Germany and Torsten, what a magnificent display you had! Great photos! Solar wind hit high gear so late and the weather was pretty cloudy here in Finland after the midnight. http:/...

Hi all, Last wednesday/thursday night we had quite challenging on/off cloudy weather, but i got big time lucky and got to see some serious aurora. Aurora wasn't as big as some others during the past years or so, but glorious and bright it sure was! I would rate it maybe the most stunning aurora of t...

Hi, As Ulrich has already mentioned, we had quite a good display here in southern Finland on 3/4 night. First tall arc and some tall rays, then the arc suddenly pulled back. After that some belts, some quite bright, for quite some time. Then came the clouds. I drove closer to home and waited until t...

Hi, I recently bought Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC (Nikon version) and since i have impression that the Samyang is the same Walimex, i thought someone might find this interesting. No review here, but few test pictures with the lens. I used 2 sec self timer and you should be able to see aperture and ...

Hi all, When looking yesterday evening from a finnish perspective, some areas in mainland Europe probably might have got 2 separate visual aurora sightings. Around 17.40 UT green arc on the southern sky here in Finland and about an hour later we even had corona, so probably also rays at quite low la...

Hi, Here at 61.2 north in Valkeakoski, Southern Finland, the last night show was pretty good. Not much really bright stuff, but at best over half of the sky almost completely filled with au. What made the display quite special, for me, was the fact that the violet color was very strong and clear. Of...

Really great to see that so many in more southern latitudes did get something to see/photograph last night! Here in southern Finland we had very nice tall arc, which actually reached pretty much all the way to the zenith at some point. No wonder Germany and so on got some lights. Here's my photos fr...

Hi, In case anyone is interested, feb 14 auroras looked like this in southern Finland. http://tomeklund.kuvat.fi/kuvat/aurora/2011/14+feb/ I think the highest it got was around 60-70 degrees, but very faint at that. Otherwise nice display and my first proper bit longer duration substorm since ages. ...

Question about 5/6 nov. 2001 aurora
Hi all, It has been quite some time when i last wrote to this forum...Ok, then to the subject. Spaceweather.com says that the CME of this event arrived around 01.50 UT on 6th of november. Here in southern Finland unusually red auroras started well 4-6 hour before the impact time. I remember Ulrich R...

Nice, it took over a year to get rainbow shots and only couple hours from server to crash after displaying those long awaited pictures....
Absolutely nothing could be more typical than this...

Place of the camera is in...northern part of southern Finland.
As far as the darkness goes, the season should really begin in around mid/late August.

Moonhalo display in Jämsä, Finland
Hi, If you happen to be hardcore halo watcher, i advise you to sit down and try not to fall from the chair. Yesterday (22.11) there was possibly the most stunning moonhalo show ever photographed in Finland. Show was localised and seen in Jämsä and particularly north from the skiing center Himos. The...

Hi, Those little less than two hours that i saw the aurora, it really was very large all the time. Yet, not really active at all and certainly not bright. Which all too bad, since the conditions otherwise would have been quite good for moody and nice looking aurora pics.... Here are couple of digipi...
