MAJOR SOLAR FLARE WARNING
Updated: 15:45 UTC on 05 November 2004
Solar Terrestrial Dispatch
www.spacew.com

SYNOPSIS:

Active Region 10696 is approaching the central solar meridian in a
complex and growing magnetic delta structure. The region has succeeded in
producing several low-level major M-class x-ray flares. The potential easily
exists for this region to produce more energetic events into the X-class
range. Proton flaring is also possible and probable in the event of an
energetic X-class event. An increase in the area of opposite polarity
magnetic flux along the northern edge of the region could lead to an increase
in shearing forces over the next 24 to 48 hours. Additional major M and/or
X-class flares are expected.
