lot's of aurora seen in Kiruna

Beitrag von janlameer » 22. Jan 2004, 16:12

Hi all
We arrived om Monday in Kiruna. Tuesday night was clear and we immediately had a huge coronal display. Also Wednesday night we had auroral bands all night and a couple of bright displays with corona.
Amazing how different aurora is up here. It all goes so fast, it is like riding a rollercoaster. It is nothing like I've seen before on mid latitude Netherlands.
Temperature is -15 to -20 and that also is different. You don't feel the cold, it is rather that skin starts to hurt badly after a few minutes. I still feel the pain in my fingers from changing a roll of film without my gloves on. Also it is a strange feeling that when you leave a path, you are in one meter of snow up to your navel.
At the moment we have clouds and we didn't have any CME effects until 5 this morning when we went to sleep.
I hope the clouds will break though ...
greetings, janL

Hi Jan,

please take as many good pictures as you can!
It would give us great pleasure to look at them.

I hope it hurts not tooooo much that there is no 8/2,8 with you :(

At the moment there should be not clouds at Kiruna, because all of them are over Germany ;-)
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you will get some good weatherconditions.

Best regards

Carsten

If all the clouds are over Germany, what's the stuff we have up here which pours rain over us?

Slightly frustrated greetings from Bodø,
