...es ist geschafft...finnische Polarlicht-Impressionen jetz
Hallo!
Ulrich

Gratuliere...
Hi Ulrich,
ich gratuliere!
Guter Job, super Bilder, klasse Erinnerung.
Weiter so!
Rainer

Re: Gratuliere...plus probably pic Terschelling 17 April 200
Hi Ulrich and Rainer
Great stuff Ulrich, haven't had the time yet to browse everything. But this is great Internet knowledge.
Also Rainer, I haven't seen your site in detail yet, but it seems very interesting, with all that "library" information. It reminded me that last Saturday I had some rolls of negatives developed and from the negatives it seemed that I have made one good pic of the 17 April 2002 display from Terschelling Netherlands 53N 5E.
Only the first negative showed aurora, red and very high. By accident I left the negatives on the island (I am in Amsterdam again), so I cannot be positive until scanning the negative.
My first negative is always: maximum exposure under these circumstances. After that I let my eyes get adapted, reflect on the situation, correct mistakes and start making a "well thought sequence" that allows for very bright aurora. Seems that my visual "idea" of aurora was correct. But I have to wait for final conclusions.
Greetings, it is nice to see so many good AKM members sites, including those that I haven't mentioned now but enjoy also

March 22 animation
Hi Ulrich,
I just saw the March 22 animation.
Brilliant: it shows so good how bright and impressive aurora from Finland can be. Makes me want to go to the cottage myself. Sounds a lot like Terschelling: aurora and fresh fish! And your climatological choosing prooves right again.
Remarks:
- can you put the date also in the picture details. It is a little annoying to have to go two levels higher in order to find the calendar date.
- the images look great and download fast but the compression might be a little too high. Non aurora "experts" might think perhaps that the compression artefacts are aurora themself.
- Changing exposure-time during sequencing is very risky but in this case very well done. I suppose this is an ad hoc, almost "scrap-material" animation. Just shows how fast substorms develop and how very alert you have to be in able to capture it. What was your heartrate during this shooting (grin)?
Thanks for making this, JanL

Hi Jan!

You are welcome to our next tour!

...mhh, maybe I should make a short visit there as well.

Mhh, two levels? The date is also given on each days overview page.
And because of the different ways, the dates are give in Europe and in America I decided to go thae way it is now.

Oh, you think it's too much compression? Well, the total volume (including both the German and English HTML, but that's not much space) is already more than 12MB, so I think a medium compression or high qualitiy level of 6 in Adobe Photoshop is just about right. I have seen much more distorted pictures going with a quality level of 2 or 3. These were really aweful.

Right! Originally I had only a sequence of 3 pictures, but after looking at the other 5 pics before and after the sequence, I decided to go ahead and put them all into the sequence.
Btw, I have to thank Sven Lüke and Peter Kuklok for editing the sequence for me. If I would have done that on my own, it would look like a big mess...more like an earthquake than a auroral substorm.

Jeep, and it shows how much luck I had that night.
I was just on the lake taking my hourly panoramic shot, because I thought I could capture aurora on film but not see it visually as the moon was already that bright. And just as I was finished with the pan it suddenly happend. The huge and beautyful curtain appeared and grew wider and wider. It started in the west and after 30secs or so it was all the way down to the east.
> What was your heartrate during this shooting (grin)?
...mhh, I think it was somewhat near 180 or 200. I was juming up and down and running over the lake like a little child.
Ok, thank you for the comments.
Have fun
