Hi.
Yesterday I saw a good halo display with lot of arcs. Among them was my first sighting of the rare helic arc. A very happy treat for a halo freak.
There was also a glimpse of a Wegener arc.

This is a classic display from the great North with its prominent Parry and continuous helic arcs, and quite a few things in the 46-deg-halo regime.
Has anybody an explanation for the fuzziness or width of the rings? Can't be odd rings, I guess, so could this be a consequence of imperfect (maybe just freezing or thawing?) crystals?

PS: whenever the 22-deg sundogs (parhelia) get brilliant and "triangular" like in some other photos on your site, you should be looking for the exceedingly rare 44-deg parhelia (well documented only ca. 20 times) due to dual scattering, cf.
