Optical phenomena on ice (Taivaanvahti, 21.2.2018)

I have not seen similar optical phenomena. I refer to curved colorful "arcs" that stretches on both side of person skating on natural ice surface. If any idea of cause, let know comments here...

Hi Timo
Some polarization effect? Seems to be an artificial light source - glas in front of the bulb? And maybe polarization filter on camera. Usually this way you make visible tensions in bended crystal clear materials like acrylic glass etc. The ice surely is bent by the weight of the person.

Not sure what you refer with artificial light...?

There was also video taken by the observer (iPhone), not sure if it has built in polarisation filters. The same effect is visible, approx 5...8 sec from start of a video.

Comments on observation, do also refer to a possible use of polarisation filter...

I have been occasionally skating on ice, when I was young (approx 30 years ago). Weight of a person could bent the ice. I do not have means to measure (or even estimate how much ice would bent). I think it depends on ice thickness and additional weight on top of it.

Anyway - that looks an interesting phenomena...
