During couple of days near christmas, there was moon halos visible at Finland. This 22 ring I photographed at central Finland (Vesanto), the place where I was born.
Mars -the bright spot- lies between 1 and 2 o'clock from the moon just outside of the halo. Big Dipper is on top left. Orion is on the right side of image.
I wish a good new year 2008, may that be enriched with beautiful halos !

Timo,
Thats a beauty there sometimes a simple 22d halo when well formed is a tranquil sight especially with the moon stars and Mars. I live in Ohio USA and there have been nice displays in quite a while.
Regards,
Michael

It would have been good opportunity for time lapse movie, since this halo was visible on the sky couple of hours. Later on the ice propably melt on the clouds, because colorful corona ring appeared around moon. I would like to be there, where Marko R. (and other observers) had recently taken images of good diamond dust halos - In northern Finlad. Too warm here for diamond dust...
