Aurora photos & Newton rings

Beitrag von Timo Kuhmonen » 17. Feb 2022, 16:52

Occasionnally this could happen. There is monocromatic light from auroras. Usually the rings are visible in the center of aurora image (green most dominant light). One example here, see last image

I have not been able to see these interference based rings on my aurora photos. Some comments are, from older "protection" filters -> could cause these to become more easily visible. I have not taken off the protection filters on my wideangle lens, like Tokina 12-24.

I know this phenomena was been able to reproduce in controlled environment. To my understanding the light source was fluorescent light. And mainly other peaks outside of green mercury was filtered out...

Did you have ever seen this (or know to be reported of), on the aurora photos taken on central europe?
