Congratulation!
Congratulation Mats!
Was this your first aurora this year or do you had some more already? For the northern parts of Germany this was the first time this year. But I hope we will get even more in spring tiime!

Yes this was my first aurora for 2004.
Hi Wolfgang.
It was a very faint display. I shot 6 images with my digital camera from the balcony at my home. There was no need to go out for a photo session, the display faded very fast.

Hi,
here are pictures from Espoo Finland from last night by Jani Katava.

The display was interesting, but not good. it was very large, but not bright or active. Bands in the south were one of the brightest elements of the display.

Thank you!
Hi Tom,
these are pretty nice pictures, thank you for posting the link!
Especially I like the contrast between "high voltage" up in the sky (the aurora) and the "high voltage" technology on earth. These are picture that can tell stories, even when the aurora itself is no so overwhelming as at some other events.

I had the pleasure to watch the high activity phase in the evening of 11.2. from the train window between Kolari and Tornio in Finnish Lapland (I hope to get some kind of a travel report online later this month).
The extent of the display was amazing (at some times I counted up to 6 and more parallel arcs all over the sky), but I also agree that this was nothing too exciting in terms of variety, colors etc. However, size and length of the display was remarkable.
Since this covered the whole sky over and over again, I'm not even sad that I couldn't take any photos. It would have been too big for a normal camera, anyway.
Gruß,
Sebastian
