Hi
I've posted another filmclip on www.timelapse.nl
It is from 11/12 April 2001 (the night I made the picture with the bike).
It shows nicely how the colors of aurora can change during the display.
enjoy ! janL

Hi Heiko ! Thanks for the compliments. It is hard to remember the exposure times but I think it was 15 seconds for the 16/3,5 fisheye shots and 8 seconds for the 24/2,0 shots. I first had two rolls developed at 1600 ISO and after talking with the technician at the photo lab, the other 28 rolls were ...

filmclip of Lapland aurora
Hi ! I've posted a filmclip of Lapland aurora on my site. It was shot in Kiruna, Sweden in the end of January 2004 when a coronal hole and a sector boundary crossing produced quite some fireworks almost every night. I used Kodak Royal Supra film at 3200 ISO with a 16/3,5 mm full frame fisheye and a ...

Hey Bernd, great pics ! I observed near Dinant, in the Belgian Ardennes, aprox 200 meters above the fog. Great show, indeed groups of 20 - 30 per minute, sometimes even more than one per second, and then only a few weak ones for ten minutes. I shot 75 frames, 6 minutes per frame, and for me too it w...

new aurora clips
Hi
I've added 7 aurora clips to my site. Some have been shown on the AKM meeting, some not.
You can find them at www.timelapse.nl under "time-lapse cinematography" .
Hope you like them, Jan

aurora film
Hi !
I think I would enjoy being at the meeting too. I'm scanning and editing all my cycle 23 filmmaterial now, and I would love to show it on the meeting (aprox 20 minutes of material, Terschelling and Kiruna).
greetings, JanL

no aurora seen
there were too many clouds to make a difference between aurora and twilight.
At times I saw milky way at zenith but in the north there was much haze.
oh well, better next time

aurora possible
Hi 02:10 local (00 UT) at Teschelling, Netherlands Bz at -16 andensity 11 protons sounds to visible aurora = yes to me. We're having low clouds here now, but I'll go to the Northseabeach with camera just in case there are no clouds on the northern horizon. Also Canopus predicts 6++ for the coming ho...

Hi Marjorie Great that you recorded those data ! If you can I would love to see your recordings in this forum. I'll try and post the photograph om my site www.timelapse.nl soon. I remember that I spent four or five nights waiting for aurora in April 2002, it was quite frustrating, with those short n...

I'm glad that I now know what week I took the pic, I will post it soon, it's a nice one. Tha...

yepp, X1
Also, with four M flares recently, I wouldn't be surprised when a few more smaller X flares and finally an X4 on Friday would occur (around 11: 19 local time).
Could be nice now, here we're under dark skies now while Norwegian aurora is sunlit all night.
thumbs up, janL

april 2002 aurora
Hi all I'm slowly recovering from the great Terschelling Oerol show we had for ten days in June, with the premiere of a nice 7 minutes long film of the auroral footage that I shot during solar cycle 23. And at the moment I am again on Terschelling to install a permanent exhibition of photographs tha...

Hi Heiko and Dirk Thanks for the replies. So mpeg it will be, I will do some experimenting with it. It is always hard to find the right compromise between filesize and quality. I probably will also add some larger DivX animations. My Kiruna shots are just screaming to go on-line. But my main concern...

what codec shall I use ?
Hi! I'm working on my new website at www.timelapse.nl and I am wondering what codec I shall use for my filmclips. I'd rather not use divx for the general audience since it requires downloading and installing their codec. I noticed that Sirko uses mpeg codec for the movies on his very informative met...

Thanks Peter The color problem is indeed pretty large, but for planets a minus violet filter would be a good option I guess. The idea of having a wide field refractor is very tempting though, I love watching Messier objects and the like. I'm thinking of putting it on a EQ6 mount, that would be stabl...

question on SkyWathcher 150 / 750 refractor
Hi there !
Does anyone have experience with, or an opinion about the SkyWatcher 150 mm F/5 750 mm focal length refractor ?
I've long been wanting to get a rich field refractor, and this one seems to be well sized and relative cheap.
But how does it perform ?
thanks, jan lameer

Magical show from Kiruna
Hi all ! After a few nights with good aurora, last Saturday night was heavily overcast but at about 01:15 UT a pitch black starfilled sky became visible. Some weak green bands were visible and as Jan den Hollander checked the WAP ACE data, it showed that we were going to have fun: Bz -10 nT at Kirun...

lot's of aurora seen in Kiruna
Hi all We arrived om Monday in Kiruna. Tuesday night was clear and we immediately had a huge coronal display. Also Wednesday night we had auroral bands all night and a couple of bright displays with corona. Amazing how different aurora is up here. It all goes so fast, it is like riding a rollercoast...
